Adult Reconstruction (Hip/Knee) Johns Hopkins at Good Samaritan Hospital
Welcome to our Adult Reconstructive Surgery and Joint Care Division. Our mission is to provide our patients with the highest level of comprehensive and quality care available in the Baltimore-Washington region.
Exceptional Sub-Specialized Care. We understand that each patient is an individual with specific needs. To this end, your care will be customized to your particular diagnosis in order to restore quality of life using methods that are both clinically proven and innovative.
Conservative Management. We offer a conservative approach to treating hip and knee arthritis and injuries, utilizing a variety of non-operative treatment modalities including medication, physical therapy, and injections when appropriate. When surgery is indicated, we offer a team approach with the Good Samaritan Hospital JointExperience program.
Comprehensive Treatment. Each patient’s Joint Experience begins the moment the decision is made to proceed with surgery and continues through discharge from the hospital. Our patients receive a detailed binder that explains every step of the process from preparation for the surgery to the hospitalization to discharge from the hospital and beyond. A pre-operative education class is offered, as well as pre-hab therapy sessions to prepare for the surgery and recovery. We even have reunion lunches for our patients a few months after their surgeries.
Board Certified Professionals. Our board certified, fellowship trained joint surgeons offer the safest and most effective surgical treatments available, ranging from arthroscopic and less-invasive procedures to complex reconstruction and revision surgeries. We strive to make joint surgery as comfortable as possible. Multiple modalities in the operating room, including nerve blocks and local anesthetics injected at the surgical site, are utilized to decrease pain after the surgery. The JointExperience has a full-time clinical pharmacist on the orthopaedic floor to manage effective pain relief in the post-operative period.
Superior Outcomes. Our goal is to help patients return to normal and more comfortable activity as soon as possible. Patients work toward recovery in both group and individual physical and occupational therapy sessions on the orthopaedic floor. Our patient’s average length of stay in the hospital is 3 days. Patients who require a longer hospitalization are offered inpatient rehab options if appropriate.
If hip or knee pain is interfering with your comfort, activities, or quality of life, please visit us for a complete evaluation and treatment plan.
