Upon graduating with honors from Rush Medical School in Chicago, Steve A. Petersen, M.D. completed an Orthopaedic residency and research fellowship at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, Mayo Clinic, where he also received a Master's degree in Orthopaedic Sciences.
After serving as Associate Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Letterman Army Medical Center, San Francisco, Dr. Petersen continued his training with a fellowship in shoulder surgery and sports medicine at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Colorado. Additionally, he was selected for the prestigious European Traveling Shoulder Fellowship by the American Shoulder and Elbow Society.
He has served as Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan, where he held the positions of Interim Chairman, and Director of the Adult Shoulder Service.
Presently, Dr. Petersen is Associate Professor, in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is also the Co-Director of Johns Hopkins Division of Shoulder Surgery and the Shoulder Fellowship Program, and a team physician for the Baltimore Orioles Baseball Club.
Dr. Petersen is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Shoulder and Elbow Society, the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He was recently named Assistant Editor for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
